02-24-09 Tuesday Week 4

Another photo from the Oly Cert this past weekend...

I took a rest day today. Okay, that's totally a lie. I am just depressed. A rest day is appropriate to take when one is in need of actual rest. Truly, it was a mental health day. It's been more like vegging -- a little bit of a pity-party, really. I'm bummed out about my shoulder, for one. I kinda feel like, "what's the point?" More than anything, I'm scared to do damage that I can't afford to fix. The Doc says rest is important, but I can do anything that doesn't cause me pain. It doesn't necessarily hurt, it just feels funny most of the time and it's FREAKING me out!

Also, my West Coast coach is out of pocket and has been for 3 weeks (this is week 4 and he should be back by week 5). I have nobody to answer to BUT myself, and my motivation is waning. Why kill myself if nobody else cares, right?

While looking for a quote to post on the CFED blog, I came across a couple that inspired me and am going to try to self-motivate these next few days. We'll see what happens.

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.
-Arnold Schwarzenegger

Our dependency makes slaves out of us, especially if this dependency is a dependency of our self-esteem. If you need encouragement, praise, pats on the back from everybody, then you make everybody your judge.
-Fritz Perls

Come on, Shana. What's the best thing for depression? A good crossfit workout. That's what you tell me. "You just have to do it, no matter what." That's what you said. So if you don't need rest, but you can't do the prescribed workout because of your shoulder, do something else. We all want you to qualify for the games..that would be awesome, but what really matters is that you do your best and take care of yourself. We'll all still love you whether you qualify or not, whether the shoulder cooperates or not. We're all proud of you for making the effort and putting yourself out there.

Can't wait to see what you do today. I care, and I'm watching. You inspire and motivate me everyday.

And by the way, this is a great post. Keeping it real. I like that.

Keep on fighting the good fight. You motivate more people than you know.

I know how you feel about having no one to answer to. I have been working out by myself for about 2 months now, and it was hard at first but I've actually come to enjoy it. After a while you do find self motivation, and it's the best kind! I've been making a lot of progress by answering to myself. Keep at it and I'll see you at the games! ; )

Hang in there! You'll work through it. I'm here looking for some of my own motivation. I've been having days like this a lot lately. I know it sounds stupid but not being able to stick my first muscle up is really killing my self confidence. So Im here checking your blog and watching you sticking in with that questionable shoulder and telling myself to turn up the heat.
